Correct me if I'm wrong, you created the login name under the security node of the database, not in the security node of server? If that's the case AFAIK you should create the user into the server security also.

You should be able to connect from Management Studio Express so it's definitively a login/username/access permission problem. Please, check the following link and see if you can find a better explanation as to the cause of the error.
