That's part of the problem. I worked for a big insurance firm in the northeast U.S. that runs their financial trading process on FPW26. The system runs continually 24 hours a day, and certain processes have a limited time to finish or must process the next day. Totally amazing.
They tried for something like two years and some crazy figure like 16 million dollars to convert to .Net.
Last I heard, they're still not done.
I also understand the .Net code they do have is too slow and cannot fit in the same time window. And if it can't fit in the same time window, it won't work. Period.
Foxpro is just plain fast. I think it's faster than anything short of C/C++ in processing data. And considering that it has it's own database engine for processing local files, it has no comparison to VB or whatever.
But one of the problems with Fox is, Fox takes intelligence. It takes more to learn Fox than that possessed by the average would-be marketing target.
And as several people have pointed out, if you cannot sell it then it will be pushed aside in favor of something that can be sold, even if inferior.
