I use a two color gradient wash, In my case, the color choices indicates which company's data I am looking at so I can distinguish them.

>Too much white space. My .exe has its menu bar with its 6 or 7 options. The app opens with its most used table and processing continues. When the table gets closed (via a close button or the X) the form is released and now comes a big blank screen, with just the menu bar options.
