I've gone through that with a HP laptop, at a ridiculous price - paid the vista tax (porez na budale), now I have a very fast XP machine :). It's actually HP who has to (or will have to, once) pay M$ the OEM price for Vista, no matter what OS gets on the machine. I think they get their money out of the adware/crapware they install and flood your desktop with. Luckily, it all vanishes when you boot from a XP setup disk :).
