Ah, but I read just last week that the nouveaux riches of China are flaunting the 1-child rule and having as many as they wish. All they do is pay the fine (peanuts to them) and get on with it.

As it is I would rather have benign India as the super-power than China. OTOH I read just yesterday that the number of Indians living in abject poverty now exceeds the population of the UK. So the country may get rich but the people don't with it.

>India has greater potential to be a financial superpower than China. It's in the demographics. China slowed down its explosive population growth by limiting each family to one child. They may have succeeded too well in that. The ratio of retired and children to Chinese workers is already ticking up, just as it is in the U.S. as our baby boomers retire. India does not have this problem and will have an increasing cost advantage in the next decade or two.

>>>It's a matter of time. In 20-30 years maybe China people will be rich enought to off shore production to Canada <g>
