Fuzzy memory here, but disabling oportunistic locking has been recommended at times to address database integrity issues. And this is not just VFP, but extends to other databases. Not allowing it to be disabled would seem dangerous . . .

I just don't see how they can feel comfortable that they've adequately tested all possible permutations and combinations.
