That seems more in keeping with your generally even-handed curmugeonness ( is that a word ? <bg> )

And I agree Andy makes no secret of his distaste for UT. I don't share it, obviously and I have a hard time getting very emotional about geek-turf in general. ( One is always somewhat embarassed by watching friends brawl Reminds me of the great Steve Black / JVP broohaha. I count both of them friends and the whole thing made me wince.)

I also agree there is no real evidence I can see of "insecurity" with UT ( probably would have been helpful if Michel had immediately said "Moderaters do not have access to passwords " and left it at that without otherwise commenting - but it's his sandbox, we are guests, and he can do what he likes.)

My personal take is probably like most people here - sometimes people make bad judgment calls without being bad people. Nadia seems like a nice person to me but taking on Andy in an ego match she was probably punching above her weight <s>

Like you and I, Andy is a cranky and opinionated old guy who will go ballistic if certain nerves or old war wounds get touched wrong <bg>

He is also one of most generous people I know.

>>>This is exactly what had come lately into my mind!

>>>The UT in particular (considering the source of the 'we have a hacker...' thread) or sowing disharmony in the VFP community.
>>
>>Either you don't know or know much about Andy Kramek or I misunderstand your implication that he would in any way want to "sow disharmony in the VFP community" I think it is very safe to say his contribution to the "VFP community" regularly exceeds your own both in quantity and quality and has for quite some time. It's fine to play the gadfly and whine about anyone who fails your VFP loyalty tests, but to mischaracterize Andy's motives in this would be unworthy of you.
>
>Yes, I can see how it is easily readable as you interpreted it and I certainly did not intend any connotation that AndyK was doing anything regarding disharmony. I understand him to be a longtime promoter/defender of FP/VFP.
>
>But I did get in mind AndyK's longtime "distaste" for the UT and that this event was perhaps seen as a chance to do it some serious damage.
>
>The "sowing disharmony" was intended to refer to those who used the "Hacker..." thread to raise additional issues regarding UT policy/management/staff and who tried to push disagreement towards nastier ends.
>
>To be direct: Andy, I in no way intended to suggest that you were trying to sabotage the VFP community and I apologize that it looked otherwise.

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
