It appears that DEFINE POPUP internally creates a new window. If you use the clause IN SCREEN, the window is part a child window within VFP. If you exclude it, the menu is a main window in Windows. I checked this with Spy++. Either way, the class you provided doesn't get notification.
I'll look into it some more. Perhaps WM_WM_INITMENUPOPUP would be the one?
