Ok, I didn't do enough research before I posted this message. It turns out that one VFP9 exe is launching another vfp9 exe and checking the form name which has focus in the 2nd exe. This worked in VFP6, but not in VFP9. We are researching to see if there is a global app object in the 2nd exe to work with. Can't pass the value because both may be running continuously at all times and the user may initiate an action in either exe so the 1st exe needs to be able to determine which form in the 2nd exe has focus at any given time (without a rewrite). Both VFP apps were originally in VFP6 and we are recompiling them in VFP9 to distribute as VFP9 apps.

>>Over the years we have consistently used _Screen.ActiveForm.Name to determine the current active form. This has worked until recently. Recently, even though another form will actually be ontop and appear to have focus, _Screen.ActiveForm.Name returns the main form. I can only think that a timer may be running which could shift focus back to the mainform somehow. Is there ever a case when _Screen.ActiveForm.Name may be actually WRONG?
