My gosh when I was palying high school golf, never. How ever I was penalized once because my ball moved at address.

There's never a need to cheat. I play just for fun now, so what would be the point of cheating? My golf buddies and I have an understanding that if our ball comes to rest in a divot we can get relief (in hazards, never). But even then I usually don't do it. But if sand traps are unplayable (usually after heavy rain) we get relief.
