Well .. compromise is good .. but there comes a point when you can't compromise any more. In my situation, fidelity, drinking, violence, financial ruin, disrespect, and so on became way more than I was willing to compromise. I went through 9 months of marriage counseling with him and finally realized it was time to move on. It is not possible to control someone else's actions .. only my own. So my action was to divorce him and move on.
Kudos to those who are able to maintain a long-term marriage. It is truly very special .. and takes two very special people to make it happen.
