Good strategy, I think. When I did my tour in the Finnish Army, I was in communications. Which was a pretty cushy job compared to the pioneers who were always right up front, literally on the bleeding edge... And this is true in so many other areas of life, as well. If for some reason you don't have to be on the bleeding edge getting blown up literally or symbolically, why would you.
