Ummm... I agree in principle, but John was comparing the punishment in this particular case, to the punishment usually given. If the usual punishment for drunk driving is, say, a week in jail (I have no idea what it is, I never tried it <g>), then it is unfair to give some people a much longer (or much shorter) sentence.
Separately, the question should be examined whether, in general, the usual sentence for drunk driving is perhaps too lenient - and then the (hopefully) longer sentence would be applied to future cases.
