I agree that a sentence should be a sentence. Even as a liberal, I hate the idea of a life sentence meaning 10 years (unless the perp dies 10 years after sentencing). It'a an absolute joke. Just recently here in Toronto, 2 young men were racing in the city at speeds of around 140kph (in a zone signed for 50). They killed a cab driver. They pretty much walked.

The two were given conditional sentences of two years less a day to be served in the community. Their sentences also include:
- Two years probation.
- 12 months of house arrest.
- 150 hours of community service.
- Bans from driving for four years.

The cab driver is dead forever, his family is without him forever, and these cretins get this sentence. The judge also apparently felt there was no definitive proof that they were racing and not just speeding. Well sure. If they were only speeding at 140kph rather than racing at 140kph, then I can see why they got to go home. I'm sure this will deter the hell out of other idiots.
