Hello Martina and thanks for reply. I'm not using a remote view nor binary memos. I am just trying to understand why these particular Chinese character data (inherited from an Access MDB file) are causing the crash. The same data typed in do not cuase a problem. It's not my app as the error occurs when opening a memo in a simple browse screen. Perhaps someone else has encountered a similar problem? Ta, Denis

If you use Remote view, try set for the memo field in field's properties "Memo binary".

>In my VFP9 app., Chinese characters are in general stored and displayed OK. However, in one memo field, with data transferred from an Access MDB table, any attempt to open this memo 100% crashes VFP. In fact, the same crash occurs even if these data are viewed in a simple browse screen outside the app. The mouse hover correctly displays the Chinese characters but a double click to open the memo will cause the crash. The same characters, typed in again manually to a new memo field are OK. Any ideas on what to try or test - I'm stumped! Thank, Denis
