Then try to change the table structure and set that memo to binary (i.e. nocptrans if you're doing that from the command line). It could be that VFP is trying to convert the text into your current codepage and runs into trouble. Setting it to binary should prevent the conversion - it basically tells Fox to not touch anything in it.

And you'd actually need to repopulate the table, because it's possible that some of this conversion happened when the records were appended.
