Thanks for the suggestions. I'll keep an eye on what I'm doing and pay more attention. And as far as shutting down .. just a habit. I always had trouble on my other laptop and XP with hibernate so I never used it. I guess I'll start retraining myself!

There are some issues with the Vista Shutdown manager where it asks for an application to shut down and the app doesn't shut down it just sits and waits and waits and never shuts down. This isn't really a Vista problem but a badly behaved app problem...
