I certainly agree that in that part of the world bombastic bragging by leaders often replaces the ability to deliver anything positive for their people. "Mother of all battles"

But Israel is particularly sensitive about the idea of genocide.

Remember the Iraqi nuclear reactor at Osirak that the French built? Remember Gerry Bull, the Canadian who was going to build a huge artillary piece for Saddam that would be able to hit Tel Aviv?

Israel takes national security very seriously. They don't get excited when screaming mobs of goat farmers dance in the street shouting "Death to Israel" but if they even hear a whisper of that from somebody who might actually be able to deliver, they get very pro-active.

They are very serious about Iran not getting a nuclear weapon.

>>It really isn't very smart for them to be saying "Gee we'd really like to wipe out Israel and gee we'd really like to have nuclear weapons." Demonstrates bad survival skills.

>'Wipe out' wish, is small street talk you could hear in probably every country in middle east (common way of taking 1967 defeat steam out of the body) and will continue to be so, until Israel manage to effectively mend fences with it's neighbours.

>I consider all this rubish talk, even if it comes out of mouth of Irannian president. Even Presidents do say stupid things sometimes, can't we agree on that ? <g>
>I don't believe Iran would ever atack Israel, or anybody else for that matter.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
