>>>>I had a "Jay Johengen" user (administrator) on my laptop. I archived it off, then had to rebuild the laptop. This time my administrator is under "Jay" and I wanted to get some of the files (My Documents) that were under "Jay Johengen." I restored that directory, but now XP won't let me do anything because it says I don't have rights. Can't look at it, deleted, move it, nada. I just want it gone at this point. Anyone? Thanks!

>>No, it's a directory apart from the XP profiles. It used to be one, but I literally restored the My Documents directory to another location on the rebuilt laptop, thinking that I would be able to just get to the files under it.

>OK, the folder may have been made "private" when it was a profile. This removes Administrator from the list of users allowed access/control. To add it back:
>
>In Windows Explorer, right-click on the folder
>Click on Sharing and Security
>Click on the Security tab
>Add either the Administrator user or the Administrators group to the list of Group or User Names
>While that new user is highlighted, make sure its permissions are Full Control in the lower box
>In the Advanced section, make sure the "Allow inheritable permissions ..." check box is checked
Only have a General, Sharing, and Customize tabs under Sharing and Security. Didn't see anything that allowed me to set the permissions, etc. Is there a way to RUN it? Or get to it through some other menu?
