>>>It really isn't very smart for them to be saying "Gee we'd really like to wipe out Israel and gee we'd really like to have nuclear weapons." Demonstrates bad survival skills.

I think you are absolutely wrong on this one - it is known that Israel has THE BOMB and that would surely be an occasion for its use.

The Iranian president (I can't spell his name) makes those statements about Israel to keep his electors focussed on something other than their real situation. It's actually very similar to the way President Bush keeps you (Americans) focussed on your own security and the "war on terror". Doing so makes the Katrina aftermath, the immigration mess, the price of gas and prescriptions, etc. take back-burner positions.
In other words, both are selling the "nightmare scenario" rather than doing what they are elected to do - SERVE THE PEOPLE.

I do think Iran would love to have nukes, but I think their motive is to protect themselves from U.S. aggression rather than to blow Israel off the map. And I do agree that the world should take every reasonable step - but not war (unreasonable in the extreme) - to prevent them from making nukes.
