>We are again in complete agreement. I think it's ultimately a woman's choice. Not only in cases of rape, incest, or medical issues -- those ought to be no-brainers -- but even when the pregnancy was a mistake and the woman decides she is not in a good position to bring a child into the world. "My body, my choice" describes it perfectly IMO.

>I don't want to hear any hogwash about abortion being just a form of birth control. I know women who have had abortions and in every case it was a life scarring event. They wonder to this day whether they made the right choice. In most cases they were young and still trying to find their own way in the world, much less capable of raising a child. One was raped. "I was not going to carry that a**hole's genes forward," she said.

>IMO it's up to the woman. Period. It isn't for old prunes to decide what she does.

And the worst of it is how many people in positions of power are "anti-abortion for any reason" who never will have to find themselves in that position - ie - men.

>>This discussion has certainly moved into an entirely new direction. It is now on a subject that is one of the few issues which I side entirely with the liberals (add to it medical care). When it comes to abortion, I am a flaming liberal. There is just not enough science and too much religion involved in the issue as well as special cases where rape or incest may be involved or medical issues. Just too many conditions to consider. Add to it the history of this country prior to Wade vs Roe. I'm very STRONGLY for CHOICE. I believe it should be a decision by the holders of the fetus and I have held that view my entire adult life.

>>>>I'm of two minds about abortion. I don't believe in the idea that a one celled creature inside a womb is a viable human being. There comes a point at which abortion may be tantamount to murder, but I disagree with those who feel that the time is from conception. Unfortunately, I'm not versed well enough in human biology to make that determination. So, for the time being, I believe it should be up to the keeper of the womb, with reasonable advice to make that choice. I won't condemn it. As I understand it too, the term 'partial birth abortion' is a phrase made up by the pro-life people, as a more emotionally evocative way of saying 'late term abortion'?

>>>I don't know of any clinical abortion that is perform at conception (unless you consider the M.A.P. pill). It's usually done well past the first month. Do you know what a fetus looks like after the first month. It certainly is'nt a single cell "creature" anymore. Your definition of "late term" abortion is just half the story.
