I would imagine that how to handle data is something that is specific to what you are trying to accomplish. A recent problem arose due to using ADO to update records. It would take ninety minutes to update the many thousands of records involved with multiple tables, which is unacceptable.

A stored procedure did the same task in 30 seconds. The original design did not have to consider a large number of records but no one told the users! :)
