Do you think the "my govt" comment was a freudian slip?

>The mentality of the media: Create a story or interests that will capture the audience and make them buy your advertisers products. It is not the news that is important. It is not the audience that is important. Without revenue from the advertisers there will be no media.
>
>Whoa unto him who thinks they are well informed by any media source. You tend to take what you hear on the media, add your own bias and you have "the truth". :)
>
>People tend to listen and watch those sources of media that agree with his/her own feelings on a given subject.
>
>Now let's get back to something really important! Paris Hilton! We want entertainment and not something that requires us to think. What could we do if we knew the truth of a subject? Why we could change the world! Perhaps not. President Bush comes to mind. More than a few folks in this country do not agree with him, but as he stated the other day, "This is MY government"!
>
>Just imagine – the three branches of government and the people have become “the president”.
>
>Historically, it seems that when someone suggests that there is something less than perfect occurring in society, that person is given a title by different sources. Just a few years ago if you disagreed with the government there were those who would call you a communist. I remember people in the Southern states in 1960 that would call you a communist if you thought that people were equal and should be treated as such.

>The power structure is an interesting topic. We have no chance to change anything. If you try you are a wacko. We need higher taxes, higher medical insurance premiums and personal costs, and higher prices for all the things we purchase. To speak out about such issues might get you branded a terrorist.
>
>Well, back to the grindstone. I have not time to worry about such maters. I have to work hard to survive, pay my bills, taxes and collapse at days end. This is the life. Ignorance is bliss and I wish to be a blissful person. Instead I am tormented by knowledge and the frustration of not being able to resolve any serious issue.
>
>I know – I will vote in the next election (as I have done for the last 44 years) and that will make everything “better”. :)
>
>The government reminds me of Microsoft - the next version will be better. We will get it right next time. :)

>>I don't claim the popular media gives a very balanced or nuanced view of the world, but consider that their target audience is laughably ignorant of history, geography, and geo-politics. It's like getting your knowledge of technical issues from USA Today or feature pieces on TV news. If you are interested in the issue, you have other sources of information and have very little interest in what "the man on the street" thinks. If you're not, you pick up enough to be able to participate in discussions and have strong opinions <g> but don't have to think about it a lot.
>>
>>>>>I was not aware that dicatators in Indonesia and S. Korea committed atrocities against their own people under the watchful eye of the US govt and nothing was done because the dictator was considered such an important cog in the fight against communism.
>>>>
>>>>But that is not because it was "covered up" Everyone who cared about it knew about it. Indifference is not the same as being the victim of a conspiracy to suppress knowledge.
>>>
>>>OTOH, it's about making lists and repeating. If you hear about Tienanmen hundreds of times over the decades, and you hear about Indonesian and South Korean stuff less than once a year, the latter evaporate from collective memory, while the former gets welded to it.

(On an infant's shirt): Already smarter than Bush
