It is common thing to ignore facts that don't fit the agenda. Most obvious logical contradictions can be quelled by invoking 'gray area' or 'past wrongs' arguments. Ultimately, bad guys could just suffer a famine 200 years ago caused by evil imperialists. It's good enough for certain minds.
