In the days before ubiquitous DVD releases the magic number for TV was seven seasons. For some reason that was the number of seasons you needed in the can before you could sell to syndication, where the backend bucks for the rest of your life were. ( hence the reason some shows lasted 6 more seasons than they should have ) Now, of course, one season will get you a DVD release for the faithful.

I really liked Coupling but 4 seasons of that was one US season. ( is this a work ethic thing or productivity of socialized television <s> ? )

Not bad but the reason why the Brit series was short is cos it was uspposed to be a fly-on-the-wall docu, which I don't think the US version is aspiring to be (at least not by now). I noticed the proliferation of epos in the US version and I thought, like all US sit coms (which are all usually very good, far better than Brit ones), they're going to kick the arse out of this one till it's dragging its sorry moribund @ss through the ratings. Now the US Office is on digital TV here and I can't be bothered, or don't have the time, to get involved in any more TV than I already do, so I can't judge thses later epos not originally by Gervais.
