At the risk of sounding naive, is there any chance of the fox community taking vfp open source or is this just out of the question?

Vince:

There are a few movements afoot and even products available -- http://www.etecnologia.net/ and http://www.alaska-software.com/ to mention just two. Existing products seem to be more geared towards Clipper -compatibility, and to make them work like VFP would still take some serious doing.

IMHO VFP is probably never goint to make it to open source, but it is quite possible that a private company will build a compatible system, most likely running under the .NET umbrella. VFP developer market at least for now is too huge for a smaller-than-Microsoft company to ignore, I think. But as the clock keeps on ticking, the size of that market keeps on dwindling and the likelihood of a replacement, open source or not, dwindles with it.
