Haven't seen this one since 2002, and then it was in VFP6 on a mix of W2K and a few XP workstations - and guess what, happened on XP only. We solved it by turning off the QoS service on the XP stations.

Unless it's a faulty network cabling (which is also likely), it's the network trying to be smart and closing the files for you after a timeout, assuming that you're doing nothing with them and most probably it assumes the process which has them open is stuck. Not good for VFP tables, which need to be kept open.

I'm only guessing - never really worked with a 2003 server. But things like this happened each time we had a mix of workstations with different versions of Windows - first time it was when we had a mix of W98 SE and W95 stations.
