I do admit to liking "Harvey's" burgers, not to mention "Lick's" (which are chopped sirloin). But mostly, if I'm not making my own burger, I'll usually go to one of the one-offs - like a Johnny's Burgers or Frank's Grill or something like that. I find that the non-chains know how to make a burger.

>>>Agreed - somewhere you can watch the guy char-grilling it for you, and salivate while you wait :-)

>>>Don't know either of the joints you cited - unless they're in London. The only other US chain I know is Wendy's.

>>Harvey's is a major chain here. Owned by the same folks who own Swiss Chalet and a few other good places (Montana's, Canyon Creek Chop House, etc). Lick's is a hamburger and ice cream place. They make truly superior burgers, but the staff are required to sing. They sing your orders back to the grillers, the grillers sing their grilling progress etc. Some of them just plain sing for the heck of it. It can be a pretty noisy place. And yes, you can watch them grilling your burger.

>I'd have thought they'd rather singe the burger!

>Sounds TYPICALLY American

Lick's is strictly an Ontario operation. Their web site is www.lickshomeburgers.com and according to the site, they use "lean ground, pastuerized Canadian beef". They make excellent burgers, so I don't worry about the fact that they can't spell.

>>>I refer to BK and CackDonalds cos they make much use of ex-rainforest-grown beef. Before anyone gets up in arms and points to a URL where it says they don't, I once watched a docu where the 2 categorically denied such practice. The investigative journo followed one consigment of beef from the ranchos to the rail road where, lo and behold, reps from both giants were waiting for their rainforest meat.

>>>There's no need!
