into your error handler and forget about the "bug" that is by design. If you really want to see a weird one that is by design try SUBSTR() where the length is longer than the string and play with SET TALK. With TALK ON there is no error but with TALK OFF is generates a read beyond end of string error. Microsoft has said that this one is by design too.
