>Doesn't he owe some of his success to Tony Blair? If I don't have that wrong he certainly came across as ungrateful in his remarks yesterday -- this is a new government, a new philosophy, etc. It came across as a direct slap in the face of the preceding government. Most newcomers in office try to distance themselves at least somewhat from their predecessors, but Brown left skid marks.
The enmity between the two is well known and publicised. Blair has been noticeable in his reluctance to endorse Brown as his
heirsuccessor. They were friends, and the general understanding is that they made a pact way back to go dibsies on the premiership. But Blair's supposed to have reneged on the deal and held on to the reins for too long. There was a whole TV docu-drama made about this but I didn't see it.
