There should be an error, the CDX is missing. I would hate to have my code use a dbf then try to set order to get a tag name doesn't exist. The only time I want the dbf open without the cdx is during reindexing and I use Stonefield to that kind of work.
If there is a bug here it is that there is no error with out an error handler.
I, personally, prefer relagating this to the error handler.
