Hi Cesar,

Thanks for replying extensively. Below are my comments.

>Hey Peter,
>
>I'm very new to the programming world, and to VFP too.
>It's only 5 years since I try to create some codes.
>
>And I'm very thankful for this helpful, great and passionate community, that has been providing me such a great support during these last years.
>
>>>You are one of the main people of Foxite, aren't you? I'm an advocate of the idea that it must be possible to link to solutions on other vfp-forums.
>
>Nope !
>I'm just an ordinary user there, if you check my profile there you'll see: "New member".

Okay, thanks for clarifying that.

>I'm brazilian, English is not native for me, and I don't feel very comfortable to write and express my opinions in English. For some times, I felt misunderstood, and in others I feel that I have to say the same things more than once to ensure people will understand what I mean.

Sounds familiar. But your English here, in this message, is quite good. :)

>For sure you'll notice that I in most cases answer questions here and in foxite when the subject is "image related". I have a special interest on this subject, and I feel that I can give a good contribution for people on this.

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for clarifying that.

>There are so many experts here and there, and as I feel myself a novice in most subjects, I just leave for them to answer, and I delight myself with so many great information these people provide.

>I have a lot of fun with my blog.
>In that space I post some of my creations and ideas.
>
>I've been receiving many questions by e-mail, and many others appear in these forums.
>To make things easier FOR ME, if I find that the answer deserves a more detailed explanation, I create a new post in my blog, and I just send a link in the forum.

I'm glad I never receive questions by e-mail. :)

Let me see, you're one of those 'publishers' (Craig Berntson, Rick Strahl, et cetera) who post solutions on their website. That's, of course, an established part of the vfp-help infrastructure on the internet. I mean, it's nothing new, it's highly appreciated by the community and it's functional. It's functional mainly because it are almost always longer, more complex articles that do not fit well in the space of a message in a forum.

I think what made me wonder in this particular case (your answer to Koen Piller) is that this blog's text would've fit perfectly well in a message on the forum and that it can hardly be called an article. I seriously doubt whether more experienced publishers would have done the same thing. I think that, in this case, they would have given the answer in the forum and perhaps would have incorporated the idea in a more extensive article.

>My goal with my blog is just to put in just one place all information available about images, and GDI+. That's all. Recently, Tore Bleken posted a very cool function that he created, and I asked him if I could publish it in my blog too. He agreed, and I posted it there with his credits.

I understand. But perhaps it's better to focus on publishing articles about images and GDI+, and give short answers directly in the forum.

>I preferred to post my answer to this specific thread started by Koen in my blog because it was image related, and that's it.
>Koen and Naomi posted their answers here, and we continued here, without any problems.
>
>>1) If all solutions we provide are published on our private weblogs only, then the idea of central knowledge bases that can easilly be searched is killed.
>
>My goal is that my blog becomes a source of information for images / pictures / gdi+ with VFP.

Great idea to have a specialized place for articles about those topics.

>>2) It hampers discussion. For example in this case your solution has several major and minor drawbacks that need to be mentioned. That could be done on your weblog, but I'd prefer to place my comments here for reasons that are obvious to me.
>
>This is partially true, but as I told you before, if people prefer to continue discussing at the forum, I don't have any problem with this, as it happened in this thread. Some people send comments in the blog, and I try to answer the sooner I can.
>
>
>>3) Providing a link to another forum is, ...
>Peter, there has been a lot of discussion on this recently, and I don't think it's worth to start all over.

As I said, as I see it - and obviously you too - it's a legitimate thing to provide a link to another forum in case it was already a topic in that other forum beforehand. That's not the issue. The issue I raised was about answering a question posed in one forum in another forum. I think the outcome of the recent discussion you don't want to start all over, is that it's now clear to everyone that this is not the way to go.

Having said that, your weblog, although hosted by Foxite, is, as I see it, not the Foxite Forum. So, it's not the case that you answered a question posed here in another forum.
