If it's a 8-pin connector, the correct name is in deed RJ45. A 4-pin is called RJ9, 4/6 is called RJ11 and 6/6 is called RJ12, but most people don't know that. :-)

If your cash drawer does not have a normal serial or parallell input, you must check the documentation, since there are so many different ways to do this. Some cash drawers will open when you short circuit two of the pins, some require a short pulse of a given voltage, while other are more intelligent.

>Does this mean that I need an adapter from the existing Cable coming from the Till to a serial cable ? Can you get such cables ?

>>>Hi.
>>>We have a customer who is changing from a POS printer to a Laser Printer in a POS App. The POS printer was connected to the Till via a cable and drawer opened fine from a control sequence via the POS printer.
>>>
>>>Anybody know of a way of opening a Cash Drawer, without having a POS printer attached. I presume some a cable from the PC will be required ?
