Thanks to everyone that responded to my posting.

I would like to clarify a little.

1. I did take a look at the Outlook2003Bar as suggested by Sergey. I think that is really nice work. But, it is not really what I need. In many ways, it is more/different than what I need. As Dragan pointed out, all I really need for the window on the left is a tree-view control and associated software to populate it, etc.

2. Furthermore, As Dragan suggested, the top right window could be handled by a grid control, and the bottom right window with a browser object.

3. But, if I did that, wouldn't I be reinventing Windows Explorer?

4. I think that the advantage of COM and OLE automation is to reuse software. If someone has already done it, why not use automation to incorporate it in my application? Not to reinvent the wheel, as clever as I might be.

5. It appears to me that the pieces of what I want to do are already there: a composite of Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer, and perhaps Outlook. I would like to investigate what automation possibilities are there.

6. Basically what I am doing is developing an entry form that the user will use to import documents of a variety of formats into our database. I want to allow them to browse the folders on their hard drives, have a chance to preview the contents of the file, and then allow them to select that file to be imported into the database.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Jim
