I have not used the software you are using. However, this sounds like a problem with blocked Passive Mode ports. FTP uses one port, normally 21, to connect. FTP Passive Mode uses a port range, normally of about 5, to transfer data including directory listings. Check what port range is being used by your software for the Passive Mode and make sure they are not blocked at whatever firewall is being used.
