Robert,

I've had my contact information posted on a few big job boards for full-time and contract work for quite a few years, listed under VFP expertise. There have been no nibbles for at least two years by now.

I finally got to a point with .NET where felt comfortable adding "intermediate .NET knowledge" to my resume, and lo and behold, I've been bombarded with job offers. Most of them have been in the 100-120K range (yes, I live in the San Francisco Bay Area), but I've felt that their requirements have been beyond my actual capabilities so far. I fully expect to land a lucrative .NET contract which matches my current skill set sooner rather than later, though, so I must say there certainly is "plentiful big fish in them thar .NET waters".

For those of you that have moved to .Net what did it cost (tuition, time, lost revenue) compared to your increased earning potential and how long was the payback. I would especially be interested in responses from developers who work for companies with less than 100 employees (the ONLY type of place I would consider working)
