So, it is compiled into an .exe? Or it wasn't and is now? Would it be any faster if it was embedded in the report file, which is also in the .exe? I'm assuming (but don't know) "no".

Did it speed up when you made the function do practically nothing?

Your .exe is certainly not larger than those done by many here on the UT. So hopefully you can experiment and figure out where there bottleneck is. And your original premise may be correct.
