It's not a matter of amnesia. It's a matter of screwed up priorities:

From Harper's Mag today:

But one exchange summed up everything just perfectly. Taylor insisted that she had sworn an oath to obey the president, and that she had to abide by her oath. This is nonsense. The law prescribes the form of oath sworn by federal government employees, and it requires that they swear to uphold the Constitution.

>Thing is, there's nothing stopping her from showing up with amnesia. It wouldn't
>be the first time someone did that.
>
>This failure to show up is just plain sticking your nose up at Congress
>and she should be punished.
>
>It's time to draw the line and say enough is enough with Bush and Cheney.

>>>Harriet Miers blew off Congress today

>>>The House is no considering contempt charges.

>>I think she should testify. I think contempt charges are probably reasonable - except that almost all people I know already hold Congress in contempt and they would need to jail the entire country. If nothing else, she should show up and do the "executive privlege" equivalent of "pleading the fifth."

>>>If there's nothing to hide, then why not testify?
>>>Seems to me it only makes you look guilty to not testify.

>>I've heard this statement before........oh yes, in the McCarthy era.
>>
>>No, I'm not accusing you of being a McCarthyite and the situations are not equivalent........but as a generalized statement this is pretty scary.
