As a matter of fact, I paid my own way to the German DevCon in Frankfurt in 1998 where I have the distinction of being the first American to go to that conference as an attendee ( and not a speaker).

It's not just about being "into" it, it's about what you learn and what you get out of it. Of course, Marcia got a lot more out of going to Frankfurt than most people get from a conference. Ultimately, she got a husband. <s>
