>I want to continue to give users the option (which I've always provided in my FP2.6 applications,) to quit at any time with a simple hotkey combination (usually CTRL+Q). and although this 'works' in VFP, I find that, in some circumstances, the system complains that x or y can't be accessed or completed or whatever. The workarounds required to get it to do what was so simple in previous versions are ludicrous. I have to 'hide' windows, make sure I issue commands in a certain order, etc etc. My closedown routine closes everything, clears events and then issues a cancel command and still comes back with errors. What am I missing? How can I just say, 'whatever is happening, stop, (optionally) save any changes and get the hell outahere!'?

Harry,

You can only say "Stop!" if something somewhere knows what to stop and how to stop it. IOW, you need a framework that keeps track of everything that occurs in the app so it can shut down whatever is running. There are some public domain frameworks available, check the libraries here. There are also some commercial frameworks that sell for around 400-500 dollars. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for.
