Not sure I read every single part of this thread, but it sounds like your app is running. It just is not showing.

Is SCREEN = OFF in your config?

If the screen is off you should call .show() on the applications top level form. Which sounds like it might be _screen in your case. Or remove the SCREEN = OFF from the config.
