One of my teachers was Argentinian and she was somewhat difficult to understand, true. The toughest thing to get used to was she was insistent on using usted predominently instead of tu and she always said 'Joe' (a softer ch sound, not a really hard J) not 'yo' :o)

>>I can read it better than speak it now, because immersion was 17 years ago. I try to practice and my daughter it learning Spanish now so that helps somewhat. There are a LOT of native Spanish speakers in this area (military base) so now that I am back around base, there is more opportunity to practice. I find the Puerto Ricans are more easily understood than Mexicans in general once you get past the speed with which they speak! I think Chileans are the MOST difficult to understand :o)

>Every one I know who studies Spanish has their own "difficult to understand" and "easy to understand" Spanish dialects. I agree that Chileans are difficult to understand but to me they are just as difficult as Argentinians. Especially in movies (I try to watch a segment of a movie in Spanish every day). Puerto Ricans also don't know how to speak good Spanish <gr&d>. In my book the only people I understand are Mexicans. !Viva Mexico! :)
