>A while back, I was talking to a friend at work, and we were talking about words. I was protesting people who say "You betcha!" as something I hated fervently. He accused me of having used that expression myself from time to time, and I all but demanded satisfaction. As I told him, never, ever, ever in my life have I used that foul expression. Finally, he agreed that maybe he'd been thinking of someone else, and asked if I wanted to go to lunch now.

What, on purpose, or just for comedic effect? :-)
But I've experienced people natuarally using "I was like..." in the same conversation, not long after bemoaning its use by "de Yoot"!
And I was like "There! You just said it yourself!"
And she was like "Oh, no. Say it ain't so!"
The one I hate, which I heard a ne'er-do-well teenage jail bait on a TV docu say:
"I was like 'blah balh blah.'
"He was like 'blah balh blah.'
and so on, till she changed it to
"Here's him: 'blah balh blah.'
"Here's me: 'blah balh blah.'
