Re Wikipedia, I have softened my original skepticism about it. It is becoming a pretty decent reference. One shortcoming it still has was pointed out in something I read the other day: the recency effect. For example, soon after President Bush pardoned Scooter Libby, Libby's Wikipedia entry was longer than those of George Washington or William Shakespeare.
I'm not sure how you go about injecting a degree of historical perspective given the basic model.
