I would just create one select string and then either Execscript or macro.

E.g.
lcSelectSQL = 'select ' + ? + ' as ' + m.lcNewField + ' FROM ' + lcOldFile ...
&lcSelectSQL

Better yet to use textmerge
TEXT to lcSQL textmerge noshow
   select <<myField>> as <<MyNewField>>
endtext
