I lived here for about 15 years now and never have swam in the ocean which is only about 12 miles away.

I love being there, especially at runset, but I don't like to swim in it.
Fear of sharks is one reason but I just don't like to get in the salt water.

I'd much rather be on a mountain or on a golf course (or both at the same time).:)

However, in this case the media was simply doing their job. Notifying the public. If it wasn't in the paper or the news then they would get hit with not notifying the public of a risk - albeit a rare but known risk (except for tourists who probably have no idea in general). Besides, I hate sharks!
