To answer your initial question, the BLG is a Visual Studio Add-In. If you want to run it in debug mode, you have to open the MMBusinessLayerGenerator project in Visual Studio and press F5 to build/run it. When you do so, a second instance of VS is launched. You can then open your project and run the BLG from this instance.

That said, if you post the full stack trace it would help me determine what's going on.
