If you are just wanting to check the version you can do so as follows:

VERSION() returns a string like this
VFP: "Visual FoxPro 05.00.00.0412 for Windows"
FP2x Win: "FoxPro 2.6a for Windows"
FP2x DOS: "FoxPro 2.6 (X)" [without "(X)" for standard version]
