Arm and a leg? Here is the price list:

Oracle Express- Free
Oracle Standard Edition One - $4,995.00 per processor
Oracle Standard Edition - $15,000 per processor
Oracle Enterprise Edition - $40,000 per processor.

Here is the caveat. As long as you pay maintenance (typically 22% of license cost) you never have to buy the database again.

JDeveloper has improved substantially in the last couple of years. Oracle has two different devlopment teams working on APEX and JDeveloper and they do not favor one over the other.

If you choose to develop with Oracle Application Express and Oracle Database Express, it does not cost you a dime.

So please check the facts before posting messages like this.

>I tested JDeveloper few years back. It was great for manipulating oracle database but debuging is much worse that debuging VFP wizzard classes.

>I believe Oracle is concentrating on APEX (Oracle Application Express) instead. It is a free tool but in Oracle you pay arm and leg for the database. I am looking at a quote as I type. I see 6 figures on the quote.

>>I have been monitoring this forum for quite some time. With the announcement of the discontinuation of VFP, there has been a lot of discussion of which tool developers should move to. Well, here's my suggestion.

>>Oracle JDeveloper. Why?

>>1. It's free (as in totally)
>>2. It works with SQL Server, MySQL, etc. (Not just limited to Oracle databases anymore).
>>
>>To download it all you have to do is join Oracle Technology Network (OTN) at this link:

>>Additionally, as a member of OTN, you can download other products and use them for free as long as it is for development purposes.

>>I really like VFP and although I am not using it in my current contract, I miss it sometimes. But I am a bir of a realist and essentially have moved onto the best database product in the world.
