I disagree. Much of what LINQ does came out of work done by the Fox team on how to access data, not objects, in .Net.

IMO, it is a mistake to see Linq exclusively as a means to access data from databases. Linq was born on the language itself (C# and VB) and its main intent is to access collections of data in memory. Its variations (Linq to Xml, Linq to Sql, Linq to Entities, etc) are actually consequences of the power of Linq.
